OUR STORY

1928

Founded by James Charles Farley in 1928, Farleys began as a furniture business in Thanet. Throughout the generations our core values have remained the same.

FOUR GENERATIONS OF FARLEYS

Before setting up his first shop in 1928, James began trading directly from his horse and cart. First selling linens to local hotels then moving on to larger furniture items, he eventually opened the J.C. Farley’s shop in Broadstairs.

When James’ sons, Norman and Harold, took over in the 1950s, they moved the furniture business to Ramsgate. In 1965 they purchased historic Ramsgate building, Townley House, and saved it from demolition at the hands of developers. With this new space, they expanded the furniture lines and introduced flooring options to their collection. Although Townley House has now passed on to another local family, we will always be proud to have saved one of Ramsgate’s most significant buildings and feel privileged to have looked after it for a time.

John Farley, Norman’s son, joined the business in the new millennium and brought with him his years of building experience. Channelling his expertise, he introduced fitted kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms to the company’s offering. He also expanded the business reach with the addition of a new kitchen showroom in Wincheap, Canterbury.

John’s son Oliver Farley now runs the business with the help of an experienced and dedicated staff in its three locations: St Lawrence, Ramsgate; Wincheap, Canterbury; and Palm Bay, Margate.

Oliver continues to run the Farleys business with the values on which it was built: Quality, Service and Value. With these values he, and the entire staff at Farleys, can continue to take pride in the work they do for many years to come.

HELPING OUR COMMUNITY

We have always considered ourselves part of the local community, and have delighted in supporting various sports teams, schools and festivals in Thanet over the years.  Most recently, Anthony and Claire took it upon themselves to pick up and deliver grocery shopping for some of Thanet’s more vulnerable residents who were self-isolating during the pandemic.

A helping hand

We are so proud of our amazing staff members Claire and Anthony!

Who took it upon themselves to voluntarily complete hundreds of grocery deliveries for vunerable local residents during the COVID19 pandemic!
